About the Project

BagpipeLesson.com was built on a simple belief: Music education should be free.

Learning the Great Highland Bagpipe has traditionally been expensive and difficult. Between finding a tutor, buying equipment, and navigating paywalled video courses, many aspiring pipers give up before they ever play their first tune. We built this site to change that.

Why Text-Based?

In the age of YouTube and video courses, a text-based website might seem old-fashioned. We believe it is actually superior for learning an instrument:

  • No scrubbing video timelines: When you need to double-check a finger position, you shouldn't have to search through a 20-minute video. With text and images, you can find exactly what you need in seconds.
  • Learn at your own pace: Read, digest, and practice without a video instructor rushing you to the next step.
  • Mobile Ready: This site is optimized to be read on your phone while you practice. It loads instantly, even on slow connections.

Open Source & Free

This project is "Open Source." That means the content is free for everyone to use, forever. There are no subscriptions, no premium tiers, and no hidden costs.

How to Use This Site

We have structured the lessons in a specific order. If you are a complete beginner, we highly recommend starting from the very beginning and not skipping ahead. Bagpiping relies heavily on muscle memory; building a solid foundation now will save you years of frustration later.
